ZX Spectrum software and hardward modified by Beckman Innovation for their Swedish market.

Long time Sinclair distributor for Sweden Beckman Innovation developed a localized ROM for the Scandinavian market. It was placed on top of the Sinclair ROM and a hardware switch which was accessible from the opening of the edge connector was provided for 100% compatibility. When the “Nordisk” ROM was selected, a choice of 4 languages (Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and English) could be selected by POKEing an address or by holding down a key upon boot-up.

The Issue 3 motherboard is placed in a metallized case to shield it from emitting stray RF signals and therefore has an insulation mat and grounding prong to touch the metallized keyboard. The Issue 6A motherboard does not have this.

Not all Spectrums distributed by Beckman were modified in this way, rendering this model quite rare.

Beckman warned in its advertisements not to purchase “Pirated imported computers” from other companies, even “if it’s a few hundred kroner cheaper” and scaring potential customers of incompatibilities of Spectrum accessories such as memory expansion modules, which of course is not true.
