Codenamed “ZX83” as can still be seen on the motherboard of early models after being called “Son of Spectrum” in a 1982 interview with Clive Sinclair.

For its serial and controller ports it used a 6-pin plug that looked similar to those of British Telecom phones, which could also be found on the ZX Spectrum 128: the ‘BT 631W’ for the serial port and ‘BT 630 W’ for the joystick. Samsung-made QL’s however used industry standard ports.
